The House recently passed the Cap and Trade / Climate Change Bill which will give the Environmental Protection Agency unprecedented control over every US citizen and business.  We want many things from the various government departments: a combination of speed, honesty, and accountability. 

• Speed:  Average time required for EPA approval of environmental impact studies – 5 years
• Honesty:  Buried opponents to the science of global warming
• Accountability: Who regulates the regulators? Congress and the President

 If any agency becomes a tool for public policy then honesty and accountability become impossible. Senior EPA Operations Research Analyst Alan Carlin prepared a report questioning the science of global warming and the validity of depending on reports from the United Nations.  Carlin received the following email from his supervisor.

“The time for such discussion of fundamental issues has passed for this round. The administrator and the administration has decided to move forward on endangerment, and your comments do not help the legal or policy case for this decision. I can only see one impact of your comments given where we are in the process, and that would be a very negative impact on our office.”

Translation:  The decision has been made.  Facts will not be allowed to get in the way.

The suppression of a differing opinion is a very common tactic of  governments everywhere.  Iran, France, England, the United States of America (both political parties).  

Limiting the power of government is the only protection against the abuses of government power.

The No Child Left Inside Act has been reintroduced for Congressional Approval.  The bill was defeated in 2008, but bad bills are sometimes resurrected.    The bill would give $500 million dollars over a five year period to schools with Washington approved environmental literacy programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

What is an approved environmental literacy program:  Eligible schools will teach what Washington deems appropriate.

The Federal Government will  now assume duties normally reserved for school boards.  I guess GM isn’t enough of a challenge.

I have an unusual idea.  Washington could give schools the $500 million dollars to improve biology and science departments.  Educate children to think for themselves.  They might then learn the difference between scientific research and theory  rigorously tested for correctness, and research and theory that is merely  politically correct.

Reading about the recent “date night” President Obama and his wife took to New York City, I have to wonder if the time of actions speaking louder than words is over.  President Obama’s desire for a “green” America is well known.  His words indicate he is deeply concerned about greenhouse gas emissions, but his actions in taking 2 planes, 2 helicopters, and a full motorcade to go on a date are seen not as an indictment of his commitment to a “green” America, but as “cute”.
 

Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for speaking out about Global Warming, not living a “green” lifestyle.

Welcome to the new reality.  Your Federal Government as parent.  Do as I say, not as I do.  Remember, when politicians talk about sacrifices that must be made, they are talking about you making the sacrifices.
